As the new millennium approached and dark, subversive, post-modern indie films from Tri-Mark and Miramax filled the theaters, it seemed that fun movies like the ones made in the 80s were done. Then in 2006, I thought there was a comeback when Snakes on a Plane dropped and I was like, “yay! It’s been a day since the Jem and the Holograms trailer released on the internet and in the past 24 hours, the response has been anything but good. Despite the reputation I have among my friends and fellow movie and television enthusiasts as being an apologist for the most hated films, directors, and writers, this time I feel that every negative reaction to this trailer is dead-on.
We’re only a few weeks out from the latest Jurassic Park movie (Jurassic World) and the trailers have been around for a while now giving us a lit bit more with each new one (I think there are about five now).
